The Aledo Varsity tennis team traveled to Keller to open the 2017 fall team tennis schedule in a dual match with 2016 District 3-6A Champion Keller High School. The Indians got off to a fast start in doubles taking a 5-2 lead, but Aledo had a strong showing in singles to finish the match with a final score 11-8 for Keller. Aledo will continue pre-district match-ups with 6A schools by traveling to Abilene High School and Duncanville High School later this week.
The doubles team of Priscilla Schimming/Erin Davis (8-5) were the lone AHS win in girls’ doubles, with Allison Dale/Olivia Key (4-8) and Carly Siddons/Tristyn Fambrough (6-8) dropping their respective matches. Keller took the mixed doubles match as Payton Neeley/Concetta Ogden (2-8) fell as well.
Aledo also took one of the three boys’ doubles matches in a win from Alec Meendsen/James Young (8-2) with the pairings of Lance McClure/Miles Grubbs (5-8) and John Llewellyn/Matt Coburn (2-8) falling to Keller in their respective matches.
In the boys’ singles matches Aledo’s McClure (6-3, 6-1), Grubbs (6-3, 6-1) and Young (6-2, 6-2) – the boys No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 respectively came away with wins in their singles matches. Clayton Byrd (8-2) also posted a win in an additional match. Meendsen (3-6, 4-6) and Neeley (2-6, 1-6) fell to Keller.
Posting wins in girls’ singles from Aledo were Key (6-1, 6-2), Siddons (6-1, 7-6(1)) and Dale (6-0, 6-3) – the girls’ No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 respectively. Falling in girls’ singles from Aledo were Schimming (3-6, 0-6), Davis (1-6, 3-6) and Fambrough (2-6, 6-7(2))). In an additional girls’ singles match Ogden (8-1) posted a win against Keller.
AHS will host Paschal High School on Friday August 25rd in their first home non-district match.
