The top-ranked (AP) Aledo Bearcats (3-0) took care of the No. 10 Mansfield Legacy Broncos (2-1) Friday night 24-3 in an unusually low-scoring game at home. Friday's game was a battle of strong defenses and Aledo depth on offense eventually out-gained the Broncos for the win. Aledo sophomore quarterback Jake Bishop went 13-for-22 passing with 176 yards and a touchdown. On the ground, Aledo's Tre Owens led the way with 65 yards and a touchdown. Money Parks led the Bearcats in receiving and had four catches for 64 yards and a touchdown. Owens punched it into the endzone for the first score and put Aledo ahead 7-0 early. Toward the end of the first quarter, Mansfield Legacy connected on a 40-yard field goal and trimmed the lead to 7-3. The Aledo lead stayed at 7-3 at halftime and it wasn't until the fourth quarter that the Bearcats put the game away. In the third, Bishop scored on a 15-yard quarterback keeper to extend the Bearacats' lead to 14-3. Aledo's Cole Daniels added three in the fourth quarter on a 22-yard field goal with just over eight minutes to go. Parks scored the final touchdown of the night on a 4-yard pass from Bishop that extended Aledo's lead to 24-3. The Bearcats defense played well and limited Mansfield Legacy to just 118 yards of total offense and just seven first downs. Aledo had 19 first downs and 290 yards of offense. Turnovers were a factor. Each team had three turnovers a piece. Mansfield Legacy's Grant Johnson led the Broncos offense with 86 yards on 18 carries. Friday's game proved to be a different kind of test for Aledo and this Friday the Bearcats have a bye week before facing Saginaw Chisholm Trail in their district opener. Aledo opens district play at home against the Rangers on Friday, Sept. 29, at 7 p.m.
