The No. 1 (AP) Aledo Bearcats (5-0, 2-0) won their 70th straight district game 52-7 Friday at Saginaw (0-5, 0-2).

With the 70th consecutive district win, the Bearcats are now just one win behind tying Austin Westlake's consecutive district wins record.

The Bearcats did it with the passing game this week.

Sophomore quarterback Jake Bishop threw for 321 yards and five touchdowns in the Bearcats' win over the Rough Riders.

Aledo receiver Hunter Rosson had a big night with four receptions for 162 yards and a touchdown.

Tre Owens was the Bearcats' leading rushing with 58 yards and a touchdown Friday night.

The Bearcats' defense held Saginaw to 115 yards and just seven first downs.

Saginaw lost two fumbles and the turnovers aided in the Bearcats' huge win.

Jeffrey Carter scored the first touchdown for the Bearcats on a 78-yard pass from Bishop.

Owens later scored in the first quarter on a 52-yard touchdown run.

Bishop threw a six-yard touchdown pass to Money Parks early in the second quarter and then a 17-yard Colt Ellison fumble recovery for a touchdown extended Aledo's lead to 28-0.

Bishop hooked up for one more touchdown before halftime on a 61-yard bomb to Rosson.

Aledo had another opportunity to put some of the backups in during the second half.

Bishop stayed in the game and extended Aledo's advantage to 42-0 on a 26-yard hookup to Jay Miller.

Later, a 49-yard Norwood reception made it 49-0.

The Bearcats ended their scoring Friday night on a 22-yard Will Turner field goal.

Saginaw scored in the fourth quarter on a 39-yard Michael Jones run.

Aledo faces Azle next Friday (Oct. 13) on the road.

Azle (2-3, 1-1) defeated Saginaw Chisholm Trail 28-21 Friday.

The Hornets had a 28-0 lead on the Rangers, but gave up 21 unanswered points in the second half.

The Bearcats continue to develop steam and look to tie the state district consecutive wins record with a win over the Hornets.

In 2016, Aledo defeated Azle 69-0.
