The Aledo High School varsity tennis team competed in the Abilene Eagle Invitational tournament March 23-24 in Abilene, Texas. There were 47 teams from across the region, with over 600 participants. In the A Draw Division, Aledo finished second, medaling in three events, behind regional powerhouse Lubbock Monterey.
In Boys’ Singles A Draw, Alec Meendsen took first place, defeating Abilene Wylie in the final. In Boys’ Doubles A Draw, Lance McClure and Miles Grubbs lost to Lubbock High 4-6, 3-6 in the final to take second place.
In Girls’ Doubles A Draw, Priscilla Schimming and Erin Davis lost to Lubbock Monterey 6-2, 3-6, 3-6 to take second place, and in Singles A Draw Olivia Key lost to Abilene Cooper 6-4, 1-6 (6) in her final round to take seventh place overall. In the Mixed Doubles A Draw, James Young and Allison Dale beat Odessa Permian 6-4, 7-6(5) in their final round to take fifth place overall.
In Boys’ Doubles B Draw, John Llewellyn and Matt Coburn beat Dumas 7-6(5), 4-6 (8) in their final round to take fifth place, and in Girls’ Doubles B Draw Carly Siddons and Tristyn Fambrough beat Wall 3-6, 6-2 (5) in their final round to take fifth place as well. In Girls’ Singles B Draw, Taryn Fambrough lost in her final round to take sixth place overall. The Mixed Doubles pairing of Concetta Ogden and Payton Neeley won Consolation of the B Draw.
The Aledo varsity tennis team returns to action on March 29th at the Richland High tennis tournament.
