The Aledo Bearcats (11-0) easily cruised to a 48-13 bi-district win over the visiting Seagoville Dragons (5-6) Thursday at home.

Aledo advances to the area round and will play the winner of Friday night’s game between Kaufman and Lovejoy.

Two Bearcat quarterbacks put up highlight-reel performances against the Dragons.

Junior Jake Bishop consistently threw darts to his receivers, completing 92 percent of his passes (11-of-12) for 233 yards and three touchdowns, hitting fellow signal caller sophomore Hampton Fay for all three.

Fay, in addition to completing 2-of-3 passes for 65 yards in relief of Bishop, excelled as a receiver, hauling in five receptions for 137 yards.

Aledo Head Football Coach Steve Wood said both of his signal callers are hitting their stride at the right time.

“They played at a high level,” Wood said.

“We knew Hampton was capable of that. He’s never really played receiver in games, and he’s been a quarterback his whole life, learning the trade. I was so excited for him, because that’s just his confidence. That’s just another weapon for us going down the line. He’s such a big target, but it’s his route running which has improved so much, and he moves around [well] too.

“And then Jake’s been on fire the last few weeks. It’s a nice time to be hitting on all cylinders. He threw one bad pass [Thursday] night that he’d like to have back, but that’s not bad for a high school junior.”

Coupled with a dominant first-half performance on the ground by running back Jase McClellan (11 carries for 136 yards and two scores), Aledo entered halftime having already scored 41 points.

The Bearcats’ defense also proved stout, shutting down Seagoville tailbacks Charzay Morris and Rashad Butler for much of the first half.

No Dragons running back topped 58 rushing yards on the night.

Seagoville struggled through the air as well, as quarterback Rio Hernandez completed only 40 percent (7-of-17) of his passes for 88 yards.

Wood said it was great to host a postseason game, especially considering how little his team has played at Bearcat Stadium recently.

“It’s just unbelievable,” Wood said.

“Our seniors got another game in there, which is a pretty special place to us. It’s a huge advantage. We only had four home games this year. I think in the last 20 games we’ve played, we’ve played in there four times, so that’s pretty crazy. It was a neat experience for our kids.”
