The RacquetCats played their first district tournament against Wichita Falls Rider on Tuesday, September 7 in Aledo. The team only lost by one match in a heartbreaking upset. Aledo defeated Rider last year 10-9 but couldn’t duplicate it this year.
Boys’ doubles came out strong winning all three matches beginning with line 1 Jax Joiner/Hogan Posey (6-4)(6-4), line 2 Ian Leslie/Scott Mason (6-1)(6-0) and line 3 Ben Farmer/Craig Mason (6-6)4, (6-4).
Girls’ doubles struggled against strong Rider girls only winning line 2 in a super tiebreaker with team Cambell Charrier/Bryanna Orr (7-5)(6-7)5 (10-7).
Going into singles play both teams were tied at 5-5 wins. Boy’s singles line 1 senior Jax Joiner dominated with a (6-1)(6-1) victory, followed by his doubles partner line 3 junior Hogan Posey winning (6-3)(6-3) and line 6 sophomore Craig Mason easily beating his opponent (6-3)(6-1).
Girl’ singles playing simultaneously with the boy’s only posted two wins with line 3 senior Georgia Posey (6-6)4 (6-0) and line 5 senior Payton Bierle (6-0)(6-2).
Going into the last three matches played the score was tied at 8-8. Unfortunately two were lost in nail biting super tiebreakers. The RacquetCats gave it all they had but couldn’t close it out with a victory. Aledo will travel to Wichita Falls Old High next Tuesday, September 14 @ 4:00pm.
