It was a perfect day for tennis this Monday, October 11 and the Aledo varsity tennis team took full advantage of it by beating the Grapvine Mustangs 12-7 in the bi-District playoff tournament that took place in Arlington, TX at the Arlington Tennis Center.
Aledo came out strong dominating in the doubles round by winning all but one match giving them a 6-1 lead going into singles play.
Boys’ doubles swept all three lines with scores from Line 1 Jax Joiner/Hogan Posey (7-5)(6-4), Line 2 Ian Leslie (7-6)3 (6-0) and Line 3 (6-4)(7-5).
Girls’ doubles also won Line 1 Katie Siddons/Georgia Posey (6-3)(6-3) and Line 2 Cambell Charrier/Bryanna Orr (7-5)(6-4). Unfortunately Line 3 partners Payton Bierle/Paige Federman lost in a super tiebreaker (7-10) after splitting sets (6-7)3 (6-2). The mixed doubles team of Zane Martin/Zoe Whitcomb pulled off a win after a super tiebreaker score of (10-8).
The RacquetCats went into the singles matches only needing 4 wins to clench bi-district. The first 4 wins came from girl’s line 6 Paige Federman when she beat her opponent (6-3)(6-1), followed by boy’s line 4 Scott Mason (6-1)(6-1), line 1 Katie Siddons was next with (6-3)(6-2). Aledo had 3 more players that were in position to win the fourth match and that win was boy’s line 5 Ben Farmer in an exciting super tiebreaker (6-0)(6-7)3 (11-9). Finishing with victories soon after were boy’s singles line 6 Craig Mason (6-3)(7-6)5 and girl’s line 5 Payton Bierle (6-4)(6-4).
Ending the tournament with a winning score of 12-7 advances the RacquetCats to Area playoffs which will be played this week TBD.
