Varsity Tennis increases record to 8-1

The tennis team has played six matches in the past week, winning all but one. On Monday August 7, the Bearcats took on Denton Guyer in the morning (12-7), and Lubbock Cooper in the afternoon (6-13). Continuing their double header tournament on August 8, they competed against Austin McNeil in the morning (11-7) and Lake Highlands in the afternoon (10-9). On Friday, August 11, the team traveled to Mansfield, winning 12-7 and hosted Abilene Cooper on August 14, winning 12-5.

Boys doubles Mason/Mason prevailed over Denton Guyer 8-7 with a tiebreak score of 7-5. Also winning were boys doubles Heckathorn/Britz (8-4), girls doubles Jack/Loftin (8-5) and girls doubles Nawrocki/Heydman (8-3). Mixed doubles Farmer/Satterfield won 8-4. Winning their singles matches were Farmer (8-3), Heckathorn (8-5), Orr (8-3), Germany (8-4), Satterfield (8-4), Heydman (8-6) and Jack (6-4).

Posting wins in the Lubbock Cooper match were girls doubles Orr/Germany (8-5), mixed doubles Farmer/Satterfield (8-3), and singles matches of Farmer (8-4), Heckathorn (8-5), Orr (8-6) and Heydman (8-1).

Winning matches in the Austin McNeil match were boys doubles Mason/Mason (8-5), Heckathorn/Britz (8-4), girls doubles Bussmeir/Loftin (8-4), Nawrocki/Heydman (8-2) and mixed doubles Farmer/Satterfield (8-4). Singles winners included C. Mason (8-6), Farmer (7-5), Germany (8-6), Bussmeir (8-4), Satterfield (8-1) and Heydman (8-6).

In a close match with Lake Highlands, wins were posted by boys doubles Heckathorn/Britz (8-3), girls doubles Bussmeir/Loftin (8-1) and mixed doubles Farmer/Satterfield (8-4). Singles winners were Farmer (8-0), Beyer (8-6), Ruminsky (8-3), Bussmeir (8-4), Satterfield (8-0), Byrd (8-4) and Heydman (8-1).

All three boys doubles teams won against Mansfield High School. Scores were Mason/Mason (8-4), Heckathorn/Britz (8-1) and Beyer/Ruminsky (8-6). Girls doubles winners were Bussmeir/Loftin (8-6), and the mixed doubles pair of Farmer/Satterfield won 8-2. Singles winners were C Mason (8-1), Farmer (8-4), S. Mason (8-1), Heckathorn (8-4), Orr (8-3), Germany (8-4), and Bussmeir (8-1).

In the August 14 match against Abilene Cooper, doubles winners were Orr/Germany (6-3, 4-6, 11-9), Bussmeir/Loftin (6-3, 6-1) and Farmer/Satterfield (6-3, 6-2). Winners in the singles bracket were Orr, Germany, Bussmeir, Satterfield, C. Mason, Farmer, Beyer, Heckathorn and Ruminsky. Games played by S. Mason and Byrd were called for time, though both were up by a set.

The team is set to play its last pre-season match against Birdville on Friday, August 18th. The district opener against Granbury is scheduled for August 22nd at Granbury High School.
